Information

Each year, the charitable activities sponsored by Illinois Knights of Columbus subordinate councils, 4th Degree Assemblies, and Columbian Squires Circles raise millions of dollars that are donated to hundreds of charitable causes. Illinois Knights of Columbus contributed to church groups such as parishes, schools, religious education, seminaries / seminarians, vocations, and promotional efforts.
The Illinois Knights contribute toward the support of community activities such as programs for the elderly, those with disabilities, mental retardation, programs for poor and disaster victims, pro-life activities, hospital and health projects, and miscellaneous civic projects.
Donations made to youth activities included Columbian Squires (the official youth organization of the Knights of Columbus), scouting and other youth groups, and youth welfare including programs on substance abuse, athletics, and miscellaneous youth projects among the recipients.
The Illinois State Council conducts several major state-wide charitable programs: General Assistance Fund, Newman Apostolate (Campus Ministries) Program, MR/LD Disabilities Fund, Vocations Support Program, and Wheelchair Foundation. Also, the Knights support the Special Olympics through volunteer and monetary efforts.

Intellectual Disabilities (ID) Fund - "Tootsie Roll Drive"

At the February State Officers Meeting The Charities Board voted to change the name of our MRLD program to the Intellectual Disabilities (ID) program. This move results from many within the community of organizations including those beneficiaries of their help who have supported the movement to refrain from using the “R” word (retardation). Recognizing that the R word is indeed a medical reference, the Charities Board wishes to join with the communities that are working to be responsive to this sensitivity.

General Assistance Fund

For those in need, the General Assistance Fund is like Pennies From Heaven. Remember that the GAF is available for brothers in duress. Make sure the fund stays healthy. Please send in your GAF collections monthly
